🌬️ Bmw E60 530D Common Problems
BMW Technician here: No E60's are reliable. You can get somewhat reliable E60's that have simplistic drivetrains, but primitive electronics will always be the downfall of these (besides the obvious problems with the V8's).
E61 cranking, no start. My '06 E61 will not start, it cranks but no firing at all and no start. I have checked the ignition by pulling a plug and laying it on the engine and cranking. I get a very bright spark so I am assuming its a fuel issue. I pulled the fuel line at the fuel rail and there was minimal leakage of fuel.
530d engine vibrations. I have read many topics about this before posting and I couldn't find a possible cause of this annoying issue, but anyway just in case somebody already found a way to solve it please advise me. I will need some indications to help me pinpoint what is causing this vibration. I bought the bmw service software dvd and also
Turn on the ignition; don’t start the engine. Turn on the scanner and select your BMW chassis. Next, Select the Control Units menu. Select Drive, then EKPS fuel pump control. Once you enter the EKPS module, you can do the following. Read Codes from EKPS Module. Clear Codes from EKPS Module.
The BMW 5 Series is a luxury executive saloon that's comfortable, efficient and drives beautifully. That last point, however, depended on the original owner specifying one important option, namely
2008 530d LCI - DSC/ABS issue. Got a head scratcher here. My car has developed a fault that I can't figure out, whenever I turn at normal traffic speeds, the traction control begins to brake slightly, if I turn an even sharper corner the car will grind to a complete stop. I have to drive with DTC on, otherwise the car is pretty much undrivable.
Same issues remained. I have checked most of the common electrical fail points I can think of: battery is fine, alternator is good, battery connections are fine, engine grounding is good, replaced the 30g relay. My feeling is also that this is a CAS-related issue. Especially as most of the fault codes are CAS related.

The first pre-LCI 335D's E60's had a few common problems with them but the latest should be close to bulletproof. Definitely try and get some sort of proper BMW / Dealer warranty as long as the price is not another $10K more than the equivalent car Privately etc.
same as OP is looking for an E60 530i. LCI have some better features and modern looks. e.g. faster shifting, cool electric auto shifter, door trim, headlight and tail light, 2009 or later car even have CIC navigation system. it went through several small design change during Pre LCI era. older the car is, less electrified which i believe less
A year in our BMW 530d Touring – 20 January 2012. The result was a black patch just to the left of your vision, which became a problem on rural left-handers. This is doubly disappointing
